I have some of my movies backed up on my computer and was wondering if I can convert them to DIVX to save space. If I do that is it ez to get them back onto DVD.
If so what do I have to do
Thanks

You would simply convert the AVI to mpeg2 with something like TMPGenc or CCE.
However converting DVD's to DivX for archival purposes is not the best idea. Everytime you re-encode something you loose quality... Well unless you encode to a lossless format which DivX, although excellent quality, is certainly not.

So if you get one of these programs you can just burn them back on to dvd, or would you need to use something like Scenarist to make it playable?

Is there a good lossless format for encoding dvd's. I didn't thank about the fact DIVX was lossy.
Do you know of any sites where you can get infomation on how to do this sort of thing.
Thank you

No point converting DVD to a lossless format as it will be much bigger than the actual DVD. So you may aswell just leave it.

No standalone DVD player supports DivX. The PS2 as far as I know doesn't support DivX either, although if it were running Linux I see no reason why it couldn't.
Both the DC and XBox support DivX.

So there is no way I can get a divix onto a dvd in a format that will play on a dvd player?
The only way to play backed up dvd's in divx format is on a pee cee?
Doh!

I already said that you can convert DivX to DVD. What I am saying is that a DVD player WILL NOT play DivX.
