I am looking at buying a new motherboard and CPU. I have been looking at the AMD AthlonXP 1800+ and an Elite K7S5a Motherboard.

Can anyone tell me if these are worth the money £150??

ive got the prevous elite mb (k7ama) with a 1800+ which works fine together.

btw: i think u could get that mb & cpu for cheaper than £150... have u tried ebuyer or komplett??? or even a computer fair

it is a good deal if its the retail version(3 year warranty) as i paid £115 just for my cpu and fan alone 4 weeks ago,you can get them for about £135 from the computer fair but you only get a (12 month warranty).

I got nothing but good things to say about any Athlon, especially 1600 and over. It outperforms my Pentium III 1.4 by more than double.

it's the best athlon processor yet. it has went up against the intel p4 at 2.5 ghz and it beat it

The 1800 is very good and u don't really need to go form anything quicker (best for price/performance)

The Elite board is nice and stable but there are no DOS drivers for the sound. Which may not bother most people but is always useful. I did have a problem with sound in win Xp, I haven;t solved that yet. Might be just the drivers
