Ok .... How do I know if the iso I've burned on cdrw & wont play on xbox is a bad burn or bad brand of cdrw?? also, if the xbox can read the cdrw when being an audio cd, shouldnt it also read it when being a game cd?? :hdspin:

i'm not really sure about your question, but maybe this may help. i have many games burned on verbatim data life plus cdr-w's. maybe give these a shot and see if they work for you. i know not all xbox systems are the same, but worth trying.

Well, generally speaking you will have to experiment around to find brands which consistently work for your Xbox. Typically, if you have burned many games to brand x and all work but the latest, its likely a bad burn. However, if its a new brand, try re-burning at 1-2x max, and do a FULL erase (not a quick erase).

Also, I have found that a brand that works for 74min, may not for 80 min. I had been using the Memorex Platinum 74min CDRW, available here in Canada at Future Shop for $25 for a spindle pack of 25. I needed some 80 min CDRW, and got the Memorex 80min CDRW 10 pack. Well, even though the packaging is identical, and the ink appears identical, they aren't branded as platinum disks, and most of the time my Xbox won't recognize them. I've now switched to the generic Office Depot 80min CDRW and they work great.

Of interest, the Office Depot CDRW have a silver/gold reflective layer, vs light blue for Memorex, and they load much quicker, with almost no read errors. Maybe because this is closer to a DVD reflective layer?

i find that Memorex 80 mins and Khypermedia work fine! It's just the cheap CD-RW's won't work! I suggest using brand names

Most xboxes don't read cdrs/rws. Use only dvdrs.

well... they should read cdrw... Its just a matters of finding one that works. When it comes to CDR xboxs with phillips dvd-drive are more friendly then thomson drives. Oh & btw, I experimented with different speed burning cdrw & in all cases games burned with slowest speed, have best loading time. :)

Sorry, but this just plain isn't true. Most CDRW's CAN be read, but not all. Slower burn speeds = quicker load speeds.

And, for the record the cheap, unbranded Office Depot CDRWs load almost as fast as my original DVD games.

diskdocx, we were talking about it on another board, it turns out if you have the right drive in the box, you can use cdr/rws...

an installer that I have known for months told me that he got 8 returns (at last count in July) from people who used cdr/rw games & he had to put in a new laser on their machines because when he did, they worked just fine.

Music cds are written another way than data cds (at least Nero does that on my computer). If someone wants to buy some FOR MUSIC USE only cds & put a game on it, I'd like to know what happans.
