I 'opened with' a certain file with notepad but when i did it, i didnt uncheck the 'always open with this program'
How do i change it back to its original state

In Windows Explorer got to the 'Tools' menu and then 'Folder Options'. Go into the 'File Types' tab and look in the list for the type of file you just associated with Notepad. When you find it just delete it and the next time you use 'Open with...' the tick box should be empty.

Even better, without deleting any settings that might be important, hold down shift and right-click your file. There should be an option to "open with...".
