HAVOK Feb 07, 2002, 03:11 PM Question...
the PS2 box will still need a mod chip, right?
ps2daddy Feb 07, 2002, 04:23 PM You can do the knife trick but I would recommend a chip is easier.
I have some neo 2.2's and neo keys and macrovision remover chips if you are interested
Remeber, your PS2 is your friend please dont stab it with a knife!
HAVOK Feb 07, 2002, 05:12 PM what is the difference in the functionality of them(chips/keys)?
potman Feb 08, 2002, 05:36 AM Hi m8, cheers for the info, do u use the superdrive of an external dvd-r.
I'm looking to buy an external firewire dvd-r drive and would like to know if it matters which one i buy, or is it best to get one that uses the pioneer A03 drive.
Any suggestions please.
Also does a straight copy with toast work fine on all ps2 dvd games?

I bought an Pioneer A03 and put it in my g4 400Mhz sawtooth
All the external drives use the Panasonic LDF-311 or the Pioneer A03.
(Sorry I had pioneer twice I made the correction 2/13/02)
I think the Revo or an of them that you buy already put together are ok
but if you use your own case I would get a case with the oxford 911 bridge though.
Yes you can just use toast to copy any game DVD or CD only the ea sports games need to be patched when using certain chips that is why cd-copy and ppf-o-matic are good programs to have
(I have never tried to patch an image created by toast though)
Astatre is also good for letting you know that your cd is too bady damaged or scratched to be copied before you waste a CD buy letting you make an image first.
DaGamer79 Feb 10, 2002, 04:50 PM I here that you can play PSX back-ups with a boot cd without the need of a mod chip. If this is true can someone please tell me how to do that? I have started making backups but have been unsuccessful in playing them on my PSX model SCPH-5501.
justpancho Feb 12, 2002, 05:47 PM hey .. i've read on some places that some of the dvd games require patches. is that not the case on a mac using the superdrive with toast titanium?
thanks in advance for your help.

the pc people have to swithc to the NTSF file system they have to use partition magic to do it without reformating their hard drive

There are no DVD games that require patches that I know of unless they are DVD-rips (which are dvds that have content ommited so they can fit on CD's)
potman Feb 13, 2002, 11:27 AM ps2daddy , thanks for all your help, i'm thinking of buying the lacie dvd-r/cd-rw firewire burner, and have just one more question, my imac is a 600Mhz G3 with 392 meg ram, is this upto the task of ps2 backups with toast (not sure of minimun spec)
I know it too slow to do dvd movie ripping (unless i want to wait forever)
Many thanks again, Potman.

what did you use as an original dvd to boot with?
thegage Jun 12, 2002, 10:27 PM i used gameshark version 2.0
ps2daddy Jun 13, 2002, 09:53 AM It would be a lot easier to get a mod chip dont assault your PS2 with a knife!!!!! (My ps2 is my friend I would never do that to it)
I sell neo 2.2's, neo keys, macrovision remover mods, and multimode 3 chips for the psone/psx if you are interested.
Also you need an original DVD with a TOC higher than the DVD-r you are trying to boot with
If you have a GS 2 Version 2.01 then follow this but when it is time for the second swap open your tray manually with the knife method and you dont have to hold the reset button down since you dont have the chip.
This is from www.kyamodchips.com
If you have a GS 2 version 1.9 the instructions are different
DVDr based, and EA protected games: (Gameshark 2 2.01)
This paragraph explains something you need to do ONLY once with your Gameshark 2, unless you reset your dongle to factory defaults some day. From the main Gameshark 2 menu, select, "GAMESHARK CODES", and press x. The next screen is your code list, and at the very top is the -- ADD NEW GAME -- option. With it selected, press x. At the next screen, press x, and a message will appear, (Updating Code List, Please Wait." After this message goes away, a new screen comes up wanting you to enter the name of the code, just press x again, and the same message as before will appear. The next screen is where you would enter codes, but we're not here to do that, just press x, and the same message will once again appear. Your Gameshark 2 dongle is now ready to boot dvdrs, and EA games.
With the Gameshark 2 disc in your Playstation 2 drive, and the Playstation 2 in standby mode, (reset light = red), press and hold reset. When the Gameshark menu appears, press eject, remove the Gameshark 2 disc, and place your ORIGINAL dvd based game in the drive. Note, this dvd original MUST have an equal, or greater T.O.C. than the dvdr based game you're wanting to boot. Close your Playstation 2's drive. As your Playstation 2 is recognizing the dvd original, go to GAMESHARK CODES. The next screen is your code list, and you need to select -- New Game --, and press x. The next screen is the selected game's code, and there is one code, which is -- New Code --. With this highlighted, press x ONCE. This will either check, or uncheck the box, which will force the Gameshark 2 to update the code list a little later on. Ok, now press start. The screen you should be seeing will have two options, WITH CODES, or WITHOUT CODES. Either one works, because there isn't any code to load! Now, you should STILL be holding reset, if not, you've messed up, start from the beginning. Press x. Now you'll have the screen come up that reads, "Start game with, or without codes enabled, Insert disc and press X to start or press O to go back." Have your finger ready to press x. Also, have your dvdr ready to be put in the drive. Now, release reset, and press x once. The screen will give you the message, "Updating Code List". The drive will soon eject all by itself, and then you must remove your original dvd based game, and place your dvdr inside the drive. The tray will automatically close within 6 seconds, so act quick! Game will boot after 2-3 seconds after the drive closes.
EA protected games: Skip the part that involves the original dvd based game swap, follow the rest of the steps.
After you've done this a few times, you'll see how easy it really is. It's easier than 1.9 I think.
thegage Jun 13, 2002, 04:38 PM hmmm...i tried this and the trey didn't open after it said updating code list after releasing reset and pressing x...did i do something wrong? also what is T.O.C.

If you are using the knife method you have to open the tray when it is updating codes. You have to do it manuallyby sticking in a knife or a peice of plastic and you dont have to hold reset since you dont have a neo 2.2 chip.
Or do you have a modchip?
Also TOC is table of contents of the disk (what is the size of the disk)
thegage Jun 13, 2002, 08:26 PM ok...up and running now...thanx for all ur help
