i just bought a new samsung 40x burner. my old one was an 8x. i never really burned at high speeds because i was afraid of data error on the disc. most of the stuff i burn will be done at lower speeds. i mostly use nero and discjuggler for burning. in the instructions that came with the new burner it says that i should enable DMA if i want to use high speed burning.
what is DMA and should i enable it?
thanks :tup:

Dont know what it is exactly but enabling it makes a noticeable difference in data transfer speeds, enable it for your hard drive too

DMA = Direct Memory Access
Always enable whenever possible.

i think i read on the nero site that you should not enable DMA.
plus i don't see the need to burn at high speeds. i mostly burn movies, games and music discs. i don't want to risk getting dodgy discs from burning high speeds.

DMA allows your burner to access memory directs or soemthign like that. With DMA enables the CPU doesn't get used as much in burning. If your drive supports it, DMA is the best option.
