Just went and bought a Polaroid BurnMax 40 yesterday, and I wanted to see how fast it could burn my 699mb Matrix divx avi, so I used the 40x cd that came with the drive just to be sure the medium supported 40x and burned it. To my dismay, it took 4:30 seconds to burn the cd, which I thought 40x burners could do 2:00 - 2:30 minutes. Hell my 20x I had before could burn in like 5 minutes, and this 40x barely beat this. I was using nero 5.5.9.9 and I have WinXp Professional. What could be making it take so long?

Are you sure that its the full version of Nero and that the slide bar for burning speed is all the way up?

Check to make sure that DMA is enabled.
