Well I have tested on a generic DVD-RW non-brand that I have. It plays fine. It's so cheap both sides look the same......

I bought bulk DVD-R and that works as well. I have a Thompson drive in my Xbox. I bet Phillips is even better since it reads CD-Rs also.

from www.xbox-scene.com

Can the Xbox read CDr/CDrw's ? What brands ?

YES!
The Xbox can officially read CDrw but shouldn't be able to CDr's altho some brands will still work.
Keep in mind that the Xbox lense in very sensitive , so don't burn cd's to fast (max 4x unless u have a very good burner like a Plextor or Ricoh).
If you still have problems to read the CDr/CDrw's , try this :
Put in CD first, then turn it off with the CD inside, then turn on, it should work, if it doesn't just eject and close a couple times and it will work.

We removed the list of working CD-Rs because the working brands will depend on what Xbox dvd-drive you have. (brand , model & fabrication date).
There are too many different xbox lasers to make a database of working and non working brands.

As general rule CD-Rs will almost never work for games (music is only 1x , so more chances it will work).
CD-RW : should work with some brands , try to find a brand working on your specific drive.
DVD-R : same as CD-RW , some brands will work (if you are lucky (good laser) they will all work)
DVD-RW : they *should* work all.
DVD-RW : they *should* work all.

Ten? You must be rich.

In theory they all should work, in practice, you never know.
