Alright folks, I got sick of my old computer crashing all the time with Win98 so I finally went out and got some more RAM so I can run Win 2000 PRO. My other computer has WinXP, but I know that is too demanding for my old horse.

First off, I was wondering if my computer can handle 2000:

P2 266 MHz
192 MB of RAM (I can increase this if needed)
6 GB HD (Don't worry, I never really have any files on this computer anyways)

MS lists the min req's as p133 and 128 MB of RAM. If my setup isn't good enough, is WIn98 SE any better than regualr Win98?

I am gonna format the hard drive and stuff, and I was wondering if I need copies of drivers for the sound card and the mobo and stuff. I got the computer a very long time ago and I never had any disks with the drivers on them in the first place :(

Thanks for looking in, I hope my old computer is not doomed to run Win98 forever!! :)

It will run Win2000 fine as long as you fo not have too many old ISA cards, just dont expect too much performance.

Win98SE is a much more stable version than the original 98, and you may find this version will provide both speed and stability.

It would probably compare with my first PC, Win95, and 8 meg of RAM.

I agree with Duffy m8, it will run 2K OK as long as you don't have many old ISA's on the system.

And if it's possible, increase the RAM to at least 256MB.

Cool, thanks for the help, the RAM is cheap (like $30 CDN for 128 MB) so I will buy a couple of sticks. :)

If you are gonna stick to win98 make sure its win98 SE alot of bugs that where in the first version were ironed out in the second.
