A while I ago ... I backed up my copy of Mechwarrior4: Vengeance using a Plextor to read and a rebadged HP82550i (Phillips). I t worked because back then, the re-badged HP was one of a few drives able to successfully make a backup of the game.
Well I now have a Toshiba SD-R1202 DVD/CD-RW combo and again I'm attempting to back it up (lost my copy !). I'm also using CloneCD v4. I believe I'm reading the second disc (which has the actual protection) correctly. I'm also using the Toshiba to write it BUT when installing the game ... the second CD would also fail at the 98% mark saying that certain files failed to be copied.
I tried all comination of settings when writing, including amplifying weak sectors.
Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong ???
Any help is GREATLY appreciated

I am using CLineCD version 4 ... but not quite sure about the setings ...
For read:
- Reading sub-channel data
- Fast Skip error is ON
- Intelligent Bad Sector Scanner is OFF
- Read speed is 2X
Always has trouble reading last two percent ...
For write ...
- Amplify weak sectors is ON
- Don't repair subchannel data is ON
- Always close last session is OFF
Are these the correct settings for read/write ????

Forget about reading the subchannel, you don't need it. Also if it is having trouble with the last couple of percent then it is probably encountering read errors which would explain why the install also fails at the last couple of percent. Check the log as there should be no read errors at the end of the disc, only at the start.

Try creating a Safedisc profile, if you encounter read errors apart from protection by reading some discs too fast you dont need to read any slower than 4X, try your old version of Clone

I checked the CloneCD log ... no errors indicated during the last 2 % read. It just reads on and on and does not appear to get beyond 98% read ... even after an hour.
One thing I did notice was that while it was attempting to read the last 2% ... my system seemed slow to respond to everything ... including keystrokes.
I checked the CD ... there does not appear to be any physical scratches.
Any suggestions ?!?

Cougar ...
I'm currently running Windows XP Pro and i believe the old version of CloneCD probably wouldn't work
Should CloneCD take so long (1 hour and counting) to read the last 2 % of Disc 02 ?!?

Flintstone ...
Tried your settings ...
Got read errors starting first few percents of the read (around sector 2800) ... after that reading went steady.
Then at around sector 286258 ... began getting read errors ("Failed to read ..."). This corresponds to reading at about 98% ... and it's still going; and it's been goning at it for about 48 minutes.
Is this normal ???

As i say in test above theres no errors , u may have bad copies or your drive dont like the media .
Do the errors show in same place when you read off both drives ? , If so i would put it down to the cds .

As I said if it is SD1/2 then there will be errors at the start of the disc for the first couple of percent. There however should be no errors at the end.

The read errors I'm getting are consistent ... errors at the first few percents of the read and the LAST 2 percent.
Here's something that is interesting .... when using the original Mechwarrior 4 Disc 02, the game installs fine. But when I attempt to copy "bigcity.mw4" from Disc 2 to any place on my HDD ... I get a read error. This file is one of he mission files. The same thing happens when I attempt to copy the same file on the copy CD
Any thoughts ?!?
P.S. About the only thing I haven't tried which I might try tonight is the unload my antivirus program all together so that it's not running in the background.
