Hi,

I'm only getting 5x ripping out of my pionner 16x reader (5x is peak, normally round 1x. ripping is never constant at 1 speed. jumps between 1x & 5x every second). Taking me 40 mins to rip a damn dvd   :furious:

Hearing about other people's 10 mins ripping makes me cry :(

Here r the specs.

Dell P3 700
320mb Ram
20gb 5400 p.hd / 80gb 7200 s.hd
Pioneer A104 6x
Pioneer 119 16x (dma enabled)

Any suggestions plz (before u say it i cant afford a new pc yet).

Thx in Advance.

try ripping in your writer

It never will be a constant speed. Drives using CAV techonlogy storage vary from the center of the disk to the outer edge in speed. If anyone tells you they get 16X consistently, they are yanking your chain. 40 minutes is very slow though. Make sure fast error checking is enabled in your ripper. Also keychecking setting can slow things down if it is set for other then every VOB. Your Specs aren't the problem. Try a few other discs. The one you are ripping may have a lot of errors due to scratches, etc. As far as ripping in the writer, nah, that would be even slower. Expect 2X tops.

i've just ripped monsters inc with my pioneer and it took 48mins..........
don't worry about it.......sometimes i put in a disk and rips fast.
i think it depends on the disk rather than the reader.

these times sound very slow - is DMA enabled on your dive - sounds like the sort of times (30-50mins) if PIO was enabled

to check
right click my computer - select properties
device manager tab (hardware tab then device manager button if in xp)
select your dive or ide controller that your drive is on
double click primary/secondary which ever it is on and check advanced settings for xp not 100% for other os
it should say under current transfer mode PIO or DMA

if you are running xp you will have to click on uninstall the ide controller in device manager - dont panic as when you restart your pc or select find new hardware, windows will reinstall it for you and you can now have DMA enabled and 10 - 15 mins to rip a 4 - 8 gb dvd

I have a Liteon 163 16X drive.
Rips @ an average speed of 12x, takes around 10 minutes to rip a movie.

Sometimes it also depends on what software your using to rip, i use smartripper.
And then how many times the encrytion key is changed during the DVD.

lol, i just swapped my ide cables (2x harddrives primary ide cable with 2x dvd secondary ide cable) & made my pioneer 117 ripper master instead of a104.

Guess what ............

...

......

........

............

Ripping down to 8 mins  from 40 which i was getting before. Now ripping speed doesn't jump between min 1x & max 5x every other second, like before. Getting around ~7 almost constantly.

I'm over the moon. :round: :round: :round:

Hmmm .... i wonder why the above changes made so much difference. I know it works now but technically why, no idea
