I ask because I have backed up Sims, Livin Large and House Party without problem. However with Vacation, as an experiment, I backed it up & installed off the backup disk. It installed OK but get program error (invalid page fault or something) when trying to play with the backup disk. Works fine with the original disk. I hunted around on the net & found betablocker (which did not fix things) and unsafedisk. Unsafedisk successfully fixed sims.exe so I can now also play with the backup disk.
However I thought House Party and Vacation had the same protection - so why didn't I have problems with House Party?
Burner is HP8230e using CloneCD with fast error skip to read and AWS enabled for write.

Use SafeDisc analyser, it will tell you what version of SafeDisc is used on each game.

Yes it must be something to do with ECM encoding which my burner cannot do correctly. Vacation must have a higher version of SD2 than House Party. I can get around it though for the moment so will probably wait for Safedisk3 or whatever to come out, & then see what burner can overcome it.

Oh & I don't think that Plextors are fully ECM capable (according to Elby).

some plextors will write the ecm but wont read them.therefor use a liteon writer prferably the 24 speed ones and upwards or a liteon or a toshiba dvd rom to read the disc and then burn with a plextor. i use a 40/12/40 and it will burn everything.i havnt come across a game yet that cant be writen by a plextor 40/12/40.it is more important to get the correct reader than writer.

and i've just had a look at the clonecd webpage and none of the plextors fully support efm encoding(they only partially support it) but ony 3 of the liteons dont support it the rest of them support it fully.

WHAT DO YOU WANT A BIG HAT. THE PROOF IS IN THE PUDDING OR SHOULD I SAY READING . IF U GET A GOOD READ YOU DONT ALWAYS NEED A GOOD WRITE.

Any reader should be able to make a 1:1 image of a SD2 CD. The problem is with the writing, not the reading... Although my Plextor reads SD2 CD's faster than my Lite-On, despite it only reading at 32X vs. 48X.

not all cd\dvd roms will make a 1 to 1 image of a cd . i have tried some games with a good reader like plextor 40ts and a teac 540 e but they will not make a good image.tried same cd with a toshi dvd and a liteon dvd and they have made a good image, which i have then burnt with a plextorrrrrr and do you know what! the game works perfectly with no cracks or anything needed.
id rather trade our lass and the kids than my plextorssssssssss

Hey this wasn't meant to be a Plextor v Liteon competition. Just wanted to know whether I did something wrong, or just that Vacation is a more "robust" version of SD2 which my CDRW can't completely handle. I assume the latter.

IM IN THE OPINION THAT PLETOR WRITERS ARE GREAT,WELL AT LEAST SOME OF THEM,LITEON ARE OK,AND THE REST ARE SH***.DO YOUR HOMEWORK BEFORE YOU BUY A WRITER.
SO WHAT PLETXORS ARE A BIT MORE EXPENSIVE,BUT THE EXTRA COST WILL BE WORTH IT IN THE END.
