I'm trying to back up the dvd Changing Lanes by just ripping the movie and one sound track. When I load the movie in spruceup to make a title set, the total size is 4.48 GB. I make the title set, then try to burn with Nero but it says I need a larger disc. Is there any other options to make it smaller rather than rempg. that takes a real long time and it seems uneccessary for such a small change.

Chop a little bit of the credits off the VOB, with a program called MPEGTOOL. Needs to be 4.39Gb or less

Or........
If the VOB is under 4.39gb then just open IFOedit, and click the "create IFO's" button. Direct it to your VOB(S) and it will create the IFO, BUP, etc, and you can burn that instead of creating a title set. No menu, or chapter points, but it works fine.

after spruceup the vobs come out to be exactly 4.38 gb but they still do not work in nero.
i dont understand why you mean by creating ifo's...didnt I do that already in spruce up? do you mean select the .m2v and open in ifoedit then create ifos?

Similar to Templar's method, use VOBSplit to cut off the required number of bytes from the last movie VOB (ie. the credits).

Actually, I mean just open IFOedit up. There will be a button labled create ifo's. Click that, and it asks you to direct it to the file or files you need ifo, bup etc for . Yes, it is what you already generated with spruce. I am talking about using on JUST the original VOB you ripped (NOT THE DEMUXED M2V) . Without the menu I thought it might fit for you. If not, just chop off a littlt bit of the VOB, re-author it, and be done.........
That is 4.39Gb INCLUDING all the files generated by authoring, so you'll need just a few seconds cut off the end.
