My experience with amd is that it smokes pentium. I guess the p4's stepped up. But for the money, and the performance, I'm sticking with amd all day.

I would like to voice my opinion. I just had out the computer repairman to replace my harddrive and I was talking with him, trying to get an idea about what my next pc purchase should be. He told me that whatever I do to go with the intel and NOT the AMD. He says that most of his calls are for the AMD and that they are extremly problem filled.

yeah but did the bloke say what he had to do to fix them ? i would say most the problems were heat related or problems with ram
fitting a decent heatsink and extra fans help loads with amd chips

Damn right IMHO! ;)

If it's Bangs for Bucks then AMD win hands down!

The last time I even built a Pentium based system for a customer was well over a year ago, they just won't stand for the extra cost anymore. But Intel have lowered their prices by quite a bit in the UK over the last few weeks so this may help their cause I guess. I wa at a computer fair today though, and only saw about 3 P4 mobos on sale. Everybody seems to want AMD right now for the aformentioned reasons.

I try to go for AMD whenever possible, because if it wasn't for them we would have to take out a mortgage to buy an Intel chip if they had it all their own way.

there are a lot of probs with amds because people try to overclock them too much and **** them up, what do you expect for the price

You guys are a bit behind the times, p4 2.4 166 quid, athlon 2.4 (running at 2.0ghz) 142 and the p4 comes with a fan , so with the price of the fan for the amd the price is about the same. The p4 will overclock 2.8 - 3.2 and still run cooler than the amd.

If you want quality, get the Intel

Intel processors Overclock to 1Ghz, with fan cooling

AMD chips run hot without overclocking, and usually only get 300-500mhz.

I use a Intel P4 1.6Ghz, can't overclock it cause its a DELL(1 year old in Nov.,), but I plan on building me a new PC later this year, I will most likely get the Second fastest Intel Chip cause the fastest cost around 530$, and the second cost 250$.

Intel are making chips called Prescotts, I don't know much about them since I just found out about them, but they will most likely battle the Hammer and Clawhammer, and win.
