QoS Packet Tagging. What is it? Should this option be turned on? Is it good to turn it on? I searched the Microsoft Knowledge base, but I couldn't find it.
Thanks

Thanks QWERTY Sep 12, 2002, 09:07 PM Quality Of Service. It's a method managing the network bandwidth. It monitors the importance of data packets and insures that high priority\high importance data gets to where it should faster. If the LAN that you're on doesn't support it, having it On or Off makes absolutley no difference. You may read a few post on the internet, by people who don't even know what it does, mistakely think that it takes 20% of your bandwidth. It doesn't. In fact the opposite is true, if your LAN hardware actually supports it, it will actually insure that your data isn't hindered by high cross-traffic on the LAN. Think of it as a Carpool lane for a LAN. But, once again, most people don't have equipment that fully supports it so turning it on or off makes no difference. |
