I was very close to buying an LG GCE-8240B 24/10/40 today for $139AUD.

Is this a good burner? and is this a good deal for it?
And is it compatible with most software etc?

:wavey:

OK i guess, but I'm sure for the money you could get a LiteOn which seem to be favoured by most right now, including myself. :)

Nods, I was looking for lite-on but the shops I went to didnt have them. I know I can get one from a computer fare in a couple of weeks, but thats too long to wait :(

Whats so great about the liteons anyway, more compatible, last longer??

My trusty old mitsumi cr4804te is in its death throws now after 3 years of solid burning, but 4X is just too slow these days! Is 3 years the normal amount of use before a burner gives up?

For $135 AUD you can get a lite-on 48/12/48
For $126.72AUD you can get an LG 40/12/40

Anyway, I'm moving this to consumer's opinion.

Although any decent PC shop should be able to match or come within $10 of those prices... at least in my experiance, but then again, I don't know what city you are in.
