View Full Version : just built a new computer got a problem. [; ; winXP]

any help would be great... Ive just built a new computer ive put windows xp in it, everything is going ok apart from the message i get when shutin computer down, the message reads Not enough virtual memory can anyone tell me what this means and how to correct the problem. Also my 3.5 floppy drive aint workin is there a setting in the bios to get this to work???

my spec is as follows: 1.2 duron processor, 256 sdram, 20gighdd.

Make sure the power cable and data cable to your floppy are correctly plugged in and not damaged. Check its status in the bios, it should auto detect.
Virtual memory is found in control panel/system/advanced/performance/settings/advanced.

You should see it there. Makre sure its enabled, i have 768mb currently allocated if thats any help to you.

cheeras m8 just checked my virtual memory its the same as yours, i did have the floppy workin before i installed my os, ill get a new one to try to c if its that.

Vallyboy if your setting is the same as BigStan, and you have followed his instructions on how to find out how much you have, its easy to change the setting.. on the virtual memory tab just click change.. increase the MAX amount available by say 100Mb

Virtual memory is an area on the hard disk the PC reserves to carryout hidden tasks and hold information that may be required at a later stage

Your HD isnt full is it?

If youve split the hard drive ensure the right partition is selected when looking for how much is allocated
