aight man, when it says its 3 gb it is more than 3 gig for example like 1024 equals the memory instead of 1000. like on myn it says 18gb drive when i have 20 gig, its the way that is is shown i think
thanks

Check things like your recycle bin, use Disk Cleanup in the drive properties menu or try System Information.
Although hardware and Windows count bytes differently you should only lose a few meg with the 24 bytes difference, not a gig!

When i do a size check on all the files on the hd it says

Size 1.62 GB (1,742.823,339) that is a show all files

it says i have 216 MB (227,434,496) free

so where the hell as the gig plus gone i have tried clean up no joy............this is doing my head in i have tried allsort i DONT want to format the pc is running a dream but its just got enough free space recomended for windows xp........could vertual mem be taking it ??

What type of Partition are you using? Hopefully not FAT as this will only see a maximum file size of 2 gig. If this is the case then try Fat 32 as it sees max file sizes of 4gig.
Or try something like Partition Magic if you have it. If you don't try something like Ranish or SpaceMonger which are freeware. these are both disk management utilities...
You could also check your BIOS to make sure it sees your drive as 3 gig and not 2...

Please trim down the size your fonts, I know its for a good cause, but not in every sig...
They are there to highlight part of your post if you need to get attention on some things only...

Thanks

What size should windows xp home take up (recommended install) ?Could it be the restore point taking the room up ?

Do you use Interner? Perhaps a big cache? What about the swap file size. Perhaps you have a lot of tmp files going around.
