I heard from the guy who modded my box that theres some sort of software being made right now that will allow us to play all cdr's on the xbox, and it will be free.......he didnt mention when this supposed software is coming out, just wanted to see if anyone else had heard of this?

I think the CD-R reading problem is due to the set up of the laser because some people have tweaked the screw on the top of the laser head and got it to read CD-Rs but have also shortened the life of their XBox xonsiderably.

I know they had to physically take the lid off and tweak the screw on the XBox laser head though so cant see this method being replaced with a software method. (you cant even get the XBox to recognise songs on a music CD-R)
If you really want to play CD-Rs that much then swap the DVD Drive with a PC DVD drive and then you'll be able to read all types of media.

hmm
sounds very strange i dont think a bios or a firmware flash would work for playing cd-r
i think the dvd-roms r made as to make it reall hard to read cd-r
thats why only cd-rw and up it can read
some peeps even have probs reading cd-rw
so im sure they wont be anything for it

what we need is a firmware update for a standard dvd-rom to read orig xbox games then that would be reall nice :)

it is to do with the laser setup and not firemware as true dvd lasers will not read CD-r because of the reflectivity of the disk. to get around this most standalones employer a dual laser/lense system to ensure compatability (may not be 100% technically acurate)
