I took the xbox hard drive out of the xbox and ran the wires to another box and put the harddrive in there, sorta like the 411 gig project but with just the original hard drive moved.
The reason i did this was to give the hard drive more room to breath and suprisingly it works very well, the air that comes out of the back of the xbox itself used to be really hot now its almost ice cold, and the air coming out of the box with the hard drive is cold too, but it makes alot of noice now, im guessing its from the fan i installed in there to make it cool, now what i want to know is if its safe to install some styrophome inside the case that holds the hard drive cutting down on the noise level well keeping it safe......just want to make sure it aint gunna melt or anything like that?

Well, styrophome is an insulator so my guess would be the drive is gonna get even hotter. The X-Box was designed to run fine without modifications so unless you have one whopper of a drive in there, it shouldn't get any hotter than MS designed for.

So would you say it would be ok if i took out the fan i installed and left the harddrive in the new case i made without any fans?
