New Xbox Confirmed
The new Xbox announced earlier by Team X-ecuter have now been confirmed by BOSSGP on the xboxhacker.net forums :
"after modding many many x-boxes I want to confirm it's true there is a new version that came out during 8/2002
different things: re done mainboard, no fan on the nvidia video chip, small chip missing behind the onboard bios.
different connection for the control leads inside.small board is now missing that the control leads plugged into.NEW DVD ROM USED PHILLIPS BRAND, not as loud as the Thompson but still whats the point without a mod chip.
all mod chips I tried wont work. I will put some pics here tomorrow.with the new bios number as well ! !
If you fit the evox mod chip the machine wont power up, it's just keeps flashing, on/off no screen, no nothing.
Hope this is'nt a major setback in the mod chip world.

I have a new Xbox from Aussie and have just ordered a modchip(OpenXbox) for it. Is there anyway of telling if my Xbox is one of these newer models without opening it?

its the date it came out not the drive just coz that one had a dif drive dont mean they all will
i sopose they get so many at a time from each company

also i live in uk and none of these unmodable xboxs are being sold here (yet)its only the aussie ones i take it ,that are so called un-modable ?

Would th ematrix chip work with the new version of the xbox? Also is there any way to tell if you have the new xbox model, because I lost my stickers.

well when they give u the xbox in the shop
look at back of the box it has a hole in it for u to read when it was made without even having to open it

and as for the new matrix chip working on it
ive not read anywhere yet that chips the replace the bios dont work
only chips that patch the bios dont work on them

so if modchips that patch like enigmah wont work on it

maybe modchips like openbox and x-ecutor will as they replace the bios
and im sure the matrix will too as its based on like x-ecutor and openbox ect and uses the lpc where as enigmah dont use the lpc

so untill someone comments on install a chip that replaces the bios on it dont work then i dont know

well just for the record the new one doesn't have a fan for the video chip

i know there are still two fans but i am talkin about the vide chip fan

I lost my stcikers from the back of the xbox. I want to know if they is any way to tell what version of the xbox I have without opening it. I bought it 8/17/2002 from ebgames.com. Also would the matrix chip work with the new xbox's?

You have to talk to the people who make that chip, or ask in the mod chip forum. My guess is no, it wont.

Microsoft is changing the internal structure of the Xbox in an effort to discourage hackers as well as bring down the cost of manufacturing Xbox units.

A spokesperson from Microsoft, Molly O'Donnell, has confirmed that the company has altered the console's configuration with the intent to "increase security and reduce overall costs." The Xbox's BIOS has been replaced with a new type, and the console's internal cooling fan has been removed entirely.

The changes to the circuit board were first noticed in Australia, where it was learned that all currently available mod chips are rendered useless in the new configuration. O'Donnell added that Xbox assembly plants in China and Mexico will be quick to follow suit.

Guess our old boxes are worth a fortune now .

M$ hired him to rework/reverse engineer any current or future mods.:(
