Problem solved….

I’ve just updated the firmware on the Lite-On LTD-165H DVDROM drive from CH0E to CH0N. I’m pleased to report that this upgrade has cured my hard drive ‘busy’ light being on all the time. Also, the ‘busy’ light no longer flashes when playing CDs or DVDs. :)

The only thing is, the name of the drive has changed to a JLMS from a Lite-On. This doesn’t bother me, but the drive is still auto-detected in the BIOS as PIO Mode 4 and Ultra DMA Mode 3.

Does this make any difference? I know the drive cannot perform faster than Mode 2, so should I leave it alone or should I change the ‘AUTO’ detect to ‘CDROM’ and enter Ultra DMA Mode 2 manually?

What do you think?

Jessica :wavey:

Yes I would try that and see what happens.

The name change comes from the fact that Lite-on has merged with JVC. JLMS stand for Jvc LiteonIT Manufacturing and Sales! Or something like that :D

To Trondos,

As I said earlier, the name change doesn’t bother me at all. I’m just glad to stop my computer resembling a Christmas Tree! All those flashing lights were giving me a headache (wot, another one!)

I’m still puzzled to why my motherboard BIOS auto-detects the drive as Ultra DMA Mode 3. I know it should be 2. Lazza just might explain it all to me one day. Until then…
