Hi just upgraded my motherboard to MSI KT3 Ultra (MS-6380E) that can take upto Athlon 2200+ and fitted Athlon 2100 XP processor (1.73)
When I boot up it says an XP 1500 + is fitted I tried chainging all the various bios settings from auto etc..to what I thought it should be...and I think I got it right cause it stopped re-booting itself or hanging...but it still reports XP 1500 +
Still when I run tmpeg to encode something that takes 10 hours on my P4 2.2 it says it will take over 24 hours on my Athlon XP 2100 surely it cant be running at the right speed..
When you guys re-boot your Athlon XP machines what speed does it report ?? Do you know what setting I should use for the Athlon 2100 XP ??
Thanks for any advice

This sounds like a simple common problem . your bios is set to run a 100 Mhz bus instead of 133 Mhz . In the bios under frequency/voltage change the cpu clock to 133 and Robert should be a male relative

It sounds like your FSB is set to 100mhz instead of 133mhz.
I had a 1.2 and when it booted it showed a 900mhz.
Changed the FSB in the bios and hey presto 1.2mhz.
Could be called "clock speed".

Thanks Guys but I tried this already and my computer wont reboot after I change it to 133 mhz... it just completely hangs...and I have to clear CMOS to go back to my original settings..
I am running 256 MB PC2100 ram could this be something to do with it ?
My other settings are core/bus ratio 12.5/13 which I believe is correct for Athlon 2100 ???
what gets me is everything reports the processor being an XP 1500 + inc windows when it runs in any configurations I try... and 1.3 GHZ for the speed just wonderng if they could have put the wrong processor in the box ???
Is this normal ??

Well in regards to wrong processor stranger things have happened especially if it came from Eclipse Computers of Coventry

Make sure that it's the CPU speed thats being changed not the Memory speed as this will give the same fault as you described . !!!!!

Yes I think I got all the processer settings correct.....but it just turns it self off and starts to reboot....
I think it could be my PSU as its only a 250 W and I have 2 hard disks and various other cards and I think the Athlon 2100 XP needs at least a 350 W...
Not sure if a 250 would have let me just boot up at lower speed though ??? as I am getting now...or perhaps it just cuts out once I try to crank it up to its proper speed..
Well I am getting a 400 w one shortly...so will let you know how it goes

Just installed new 400 W psu...but it still wont boot up if I change FSB to 133 which is what I think it needs to be to recorginise correct speed...
Seems more stable now...just cant get it to display anything other than XP 1500 +
any other ideas ??

Ok problem resolved....thought I would post as it may be off help to someone else...
My cooler was round the wrong way...aparently if it is round the wrong way it doesnt fully cool the core and therefore it wont allow it to start up at 133 mhz speed and recorgnise it as XP 2100...
But now it fires up beautifuly..
Thanks for everyones help any way...
