View Full Version : Why is my "SCANDISK" keep restarting....HELP :(

hello,
i have windows 98 se , and every time i run scandisk it keeps restarting over and over....and then a notice pops up after 10 restarts and it says "some program is writing to this disk" ,please close program so scandisk will finish sooner??

i closed pretty much every program, disabled prgrams..and still it keeps restarting....PLEASE------i gottaa fix this soon..im tired..gotta go 2 bed..any help would be greatly appreciated...

You could try running scandisk while you are in Safe Mode. Maybe it could help. Or you can boot to DOS with a bootdisk, and run it from there.

*Forgot something. If you don't know how to boot to Safe Mode, then while your computer is booting, press F8, a menu should appear. Choose Safe Mode.

Also, after ending tasks by using ctrl+alt+del , Run DRWATSON.EXE . It will show you everything that is running at that time on the 'tasks' tab. you can also get a program called enditall.

I see you are running Win98. Press ctrl+alt+del, (the usual windows three finger salute! :D ) and shut down everything but explorer and systray.
Then run scandisk again, and it should work. :)
