If you just want to join/cut them there is a great little program called asfcut. It is command line but there is a gui somewhere. But the command line is great and works a treat. just search for asfcut, it works on both wmv and asf (as long as you dont try to join 2 different file formats together)

ASFTools takes over from where ASFcut left off. I doubt you will find a premiere plugin for WMV/ASF because Microsoft would never allow it.
If you want to convert ASF/WMV to MPG then use TMPGEnc... which you could also use to frameserve to Premiere or just save out the WMV as an AVI.

There used to be a version of Virtualdub that could open ASF as well, not sure if it still is freely available, but I am sure it is around somewhere. :)
It was removed from the authors homepage, upon request from M$. :(

There is a modified version of 1.4c that supports ASF also 1.3c and prior all support ASF/WMV however Virtual Dub requires a VFW codec so it can't open all WMV files. TMPGEnc on the otherhand can use a directshow codec.

Yeah i remembered about the old VirtualDub being able to open ASF/WMV....So i downloaded it again (v1.3). It doesnt take any longer than 10 seconds to convert to AVI :)
My Problems are Solved....
Thanx for the help anyway guys.

Also noticed that the OGM modified version of 1.4.10 can open ASF/WMV.. However as I said it requires a VFW codec so you would not for instance be able to open something using WMV2.

I guess Microsoft has changed its mind because in the newest release of Premiere 6.5, you can now edit .wmv files. At least that's what the reviews say. I've yet to test it myself...

Hmmm, perhaps Microsoft just didn't want a free program that could convert/edit ASF/WMV.
Still I think I might go and get a copy of Premiere 6.5 now to test.
