i mean depending on the file extension

for example i need to find out what software i need to use with .rm files

.rm is real media file (ie streamed video) you will need real media player.
www.real.com.

Not sure of a site to find all different file types.

It's a "Real Media" file m8, open with Real Player or Real One.

Dunno about that site though sorry.

cheers, i was told before from somebody on here, but i lost it, its a very good site cos it just has a massive list of file extensions and what software is need

Brett it was me if I remember it is called www.filext.com I will put it in the sticky in this forum as it is a question asked quite often
