how can i find out weather dma is enabled on hard drive in xp and how turn on if not

Open DEVICE MANAGER.
Click on the plus (+) sign beside IDE ATA/ATAPI CONTROLLERS.
Right click on the appropriate IDE channel (Primary or Secondary).
Select PROPERTIES from the pop-up menu.
Select the ADVANCED SETTINGS tab.
if it is on u see in current transfer mode "DMA if available"
Set the "Transfer Mode" to "DMA if available". Device 0 is the MASTER device on the IDE channel in question. Device 1 is the SLAVE.
Click OK to accept the change.
Re-boot the system for the change to take effect
