yep you do if you ahve an enigmah installed, you ahve to bridge two points on the main board to enable the bios to be flashed, there are a load of tutorials, try xbox-scene

or you could replace the enigma with a Xtender or EvoX based modchip

Why is this true if you have an Enigmah...?? I have an Enigmah beta chip and out of 80 backups or so I have only come across 3 that don't work... also there is a betamod patcher that can fix them.

this is because the enigmah does not have support for a larger HD where as Evox and XTender based chips do

I have a Messiah Modded xbox, and I can t upgrade the HDD either. If I flash the bios do I still need to solder the xbox? thanks

From my understanding you can't flash the BIOS of a Messiah chip. What it ships with is what it has. And since the BIOS it shipped with doesn't support larger HD's, you are left with flashing the Xbox BIOS(TSOP), or getting a mod chip that DOES support flashing a new BIOS.

Cabrill is right about that. That is the reason why a number of people with 1st generation modchips are ditching them for newer ones.
