I currently have a cable connection. I can download between 150 - 200 k per second, and can upload around 20 k per second. Having problems with my cable company, and thinking of switching the Bellsouth DSL. Does anybody have any experience with them? Also, what can I expect the upload and download speeds to be? thanks.

HI:)
i asked the same question long time ago..and some people told me it depends where u live...i live in ont, canada..so dsl speed is kind of slow..but i think is way better then cable..i had cable 2 weeks ago..and i had so many problems with my net..so i swiched to DSl bell...and from 2 weeks i had no problem at all..the only thing i hate is that they have a damn limit of 5 gig per month..that kind of sucks..but every thing else i love it..i love the speed...

It depends on the speed of the connection that you pay for!

It sounds as if you are getting pretty good speed with the cable. Unless they are a total pain in the arse I wouldn't switch. DSL is more complicated than cable and there are many factors to consider regarding the speed. You might want to go to dslreports (http://www.dslreports.com/archive) and type in your zip code or at least the first three digits of it. This will tell you actual the speed that users are getting in your area. I'm going to move this to the Consumer's Opinion forum for you.

Thanks for the replies. Charter Pipeline is a pain, but those speeds at only $19.99 a month! I cant complain too much. I think they messed up the hookup or something , I'm supposed to have the slowest package they provide. But I sure ain't gonna tell them about it!
thanks all

I have what I consider a medium connection.I get 440k down and 220 up.
I wouldn't call those speeds more than the bottom tier! I pay $29.95.
Also as for cable, remember it is shared bandwidth! As more people on the
trunk sign up,the speeds drop.

I just moved onto a military installation where DSL is not allowed. I had Bellsouth DSL, @home Cable, roadrunner Cable, and now Comcast, and none of the cable companies combined could hold a candle to DSL. I was getting T1 speeds with my connection. (I was only about 50ft from the switching station) And, as jeepers stated, Cable is a shared connection. DSL is not. So, with DSL, whatever speedyou connect at, you stay at.
