They use to sell X-box modchips, they just got a shipment of Open Xbox Chips in about a week ago, now our of no where, they just stopped selling them.
MS seems to have lots of power, if liksang comes back up and doesn't sell X-box chips anymore, then we know what would have happened.
MS can't stop chips and they know that, chips will always be out there.
Snoopn Oct 05, 2002, 04:00 AM lol, yep, damn straight, they got screwed with homebrew chips, coz if the shutdown evryone, peeps just be making there own chips, lol, that Xodus chip si great for even a typical family, that chips makes anyone even a mum, a fat rude modchip installer.... hehehe!
i love microsoft though, they rule, sony suck!!! i hope they but evrything!
mwa423 Oct 05, 2002, 10:29 AM Lik Sang is dead. Microsoft has sued them, and microsoft has too much money, lik sang, not enough. So basically microsoft is using tactics to kill things it doesn't like.
Snoop, if you get xbox live, and your access, or your xbox gets disabled when they detect it over the internet, and you possibly might get sued by microsoft, we'll see how much you love microsoft.
I think they should go to hell and never come back. I don't like the xbox, I am a fan of the ps2 (my personal opinion) and while I don't hate companies for the consoles they make, I hate microsoft because they throw money around to kill anybody who disagrees with them... There are tons of stories of game companies suing chip makers, and losing. Microsoft probably knows the odds are against them, but they can tie it up in court, and appeal, and appeal, to the point where no chip maker has the money to compete, and then the chip makers go bankrupt.
The only time when I will **ever** get an xbox is when I can get one modded for around 125 and never have to buy an original. I never want to give microsoft a penny of my money for them to use against honest hobbiests.
Ok, honestly that brings up another point, in many news articles, microsoft says that they have no problem with hobbiests who make programs for the xbox, but to do that you need a mod chip, they are suing anybody who even has heard the word mod chip, and it will just be a matter of time till they get down to end users.

I don't think you can blame them... cause in the end its all about the money. Who in their right mind would want to make something(a game) and have someone else take it alway from them("backup" users/seller)....thats less money their making.....
They need to make their money somehow.. and if they have the money to spend.... heck...they can do what they want.. it even kills me to see **** that I DO that someone takes credit for.... Heck if they taking my money... that would make me more mad.... I would be doing the same thing MS is doing if I was in their shoes.... I think everyone else would too.... maybe we might not go in the path of MS but we still would be going for the same goal- to get more money.....
Sony..... MS...... Nintendo............. they are humans too just like us....
Money..... money... (period)... can't say more.....
handyguy Oct 05, 2002, 11:30 AM A bit of law: US Trademark/Copyright etc laws specificially state that you MUST defend your trademark from people trying to use it. So, when that happens, you send them a letter, aka a cease & desist order. Which is probably what happened..
daedlus2002 Oct 05, 2002, 12:14 PM Lets start clubbing together, all put a £1 in the pot until we have enough to take on Microsoft (could be a few years but fu<k them I am sure we could eventually do it!)

You'd die of old age long before that ever happens. :D
handyguy Oct 05, 2002, 07:06 PM MS stock dropped quite a bit to around $45......when the box came it it was about $65 or so...
bebrewer Oct 05, 2002, 07:54 PM now that they have stopped their extensive support of the messiah-x, perhaps the china-messiah guys can get around to the messiah 2 (full NTSC support) that they promised back in april

toofan Oct 05, 2002, 09:37 PM Microsoft can kiss my hairy ***. They wanna bring down anything that somehow brings the good out of their protect, and doesnt have a mS label on it. Just think of all the creativity used to make xbox such a multimedia system to play anything from divx to old console games. Microsoft doesnt think creativity. They just think money. Since these stff are free & not made by them, They hate it. Belive me, if microsoft relesed a mediaplayer for xbox, they'd sell it for 50$. same goes for all other homebrew software and utilities. Well, the moe the microsoft try to bring these people down,, the more people will get envolved in the underground xbox scene. Its all good :)
www.toofan.tk <--- The offical anti microsoft site ;)
vv132 Oct 05, 2002, 09:41 PM microsoft lost money on the xbox cause of ps2 thats why they cut prices on the xbox before the ps2, but every company stock is goin down and down so its not microsofts fault itself
mwa423 Oct 06, 2002, 12:27 PM Well krayzie, if microsoft was just trying to make a living, and money was being stolen out of their pocket, and they were hurting because of it, I would understand, but they use illegal (and many that should be illegal) tactics to shut down their competetors, and nobody does anything about it.
mwa423 Oct 06, 2002, 12:31 PM Also, I just looked at china messiah, and I doubt microsoft has much to do with them stopping the messiah x. Presuming that they are in china, microsoft really can't touch them (communism does have it's good points) but mostly because there are many better mods and they didn't want to spend the time to work on the messiah x.
DC Fisherman Oct 07, 2002, 03:24 AM why do u guys are all so piss about microsoft trying to stop the mod chip company when nintendo and sony are doing the same thing? well, nintendo are doing pretty good at preventing playing backups don't u think?
rudey Oct 07, 2002, 04:09 AM i reckon its in thier own benefit , that there is modchips available for these consoles , coz they sell a lot more when they are chipable :) . when the xbox first came out not many people brought them , they then lowered the price, the mod chip was available , they sold a lot more consoles, nintendo sold a lot of gamecubes (initially) i bet they slowed down , if you could somehow back up the gamecube games then i bet they would sell out stock very quickly , at teh end of the day i personaaly think its in their benefit (modchip) that is maybee not so good for software companies, but hey who cares :)
TheBrooster Oct 07, 2002, 10:34 AM Micorsoft lost money on the Xbox because that was their intention. They are treating the xbox as a PR stunt for the true real product, the XBox II. The XBox name will mean something when its bigger sister appears and that will give M$ a better foothold in the market place. Do you think Billionaire Bill cares if he loses 2-3 billion dollars, no!!!
Its a PR stunt!
TheBrooster Oct 07, 2002, 10:37 AM And another thing,
The reason that Nintendo are good at preventing backups is because they have been using cartridges up until now. Now they are using their on propriotry ( spelling? ) disc format that will not be read by an conventional drive. They bit the bullet and said that the gamecube wouldn't support CD or DVD and that again stopped the hackers, opposite of what SEGA did with the Dreamcast.
Live and learn
AFI Oct 08, 2002, 08:41 AM first off modded xboxes is illegal although i am getting a modded xbox and who cares if they are looking in on whos selling site but the bottom line is microsoft CAN afford to have thousands of mod chips being thrown around sony cant I hate PS2 even though i won won.
toofan Oct 08, 2002, 08:47 AM I don't think you know what you are talking about. Modchips aren't illigal at all. When you modify you car, is it illigal? when you modify your pc is it illigal? when you mess with your electrical stuff & modify them, are those illigal?? The only thing wrong here is greedy giant company like micro$oft!
GoBlue34 Oct 08, 2002, 09:08 AM Modded Xbox's are only a VERY small % of total Xbox sales. While it will affect them slightly, overall I bet they aren't THAT concerned.
We are taking about Microsoft here, not Job-Bob's computers...
AFI Oct 08, 2002, 09:17 AM sorry that not what i meant i emant making copies of games .Your right as soon as you buy the consoles you have the right to do anything you want.Well its not illegal to make copies of games either just to sell them.Ok hope it clears this up
Tom650604 Oct 09, 2002, 11:38 AM I think once you buy something you have the right to do what ever you want, modified it, throw it away, just store it, or anything you like to do with it.
Example: You can modified your car anyway you like, add new toys on it.
You don't see Honda, Toyota, or other car company going after people for modifying their cars.
Microsoft is doing this because they are not making enough money from the xbox as projected.
Hope this will give you guys some thought into this subject.....
TheBrooster Oct 10, 2002, 08:23 AM Correct me if I am wrong but, If you modify your console and that modification defeats any protection that has been designed into the consolem is that not illegal?
The Bosstone71 Oct 10, 2002, 09:38 AM But, according to our copyright laws, we are allwoed to make a backup of our software. Is making games and consoles that make it impossible to backup not a violation of our copyright rights?
They're all doing it... we have no way to make a backup because of deliberate mechanics in their processes. So, who is in the wrong here? A manufacturer (Sony, Nintendo, Microsoft) who deliberatly makes backups impossible - or the consumer - who just wants to have a backup incase the origional gets messed up. Hmmmmm
opticaI Oct 10, 2002, 10:04 AM The only reason the xbox has been exploited as much as it has is because its microsoft, everyone hates microsoft, people would even put up $200000 for someone to crack it and getlinux running. people go out of their way only because it is microsoft. im sure if the same effort was out into cracking the GC it would be done.

I agree, everyone and their brother is hacking the xbox just because it is from M$. Look at all the info available for everything from adding extra RAM to removing and upgrading the Graphics chip. Everyone wants a piece of M$, you'll never hear stuff like this happening to a PS2 or any other console. (If you ask me, I think some of these peeps have way too much time on their hands :D)
Jaymus Oct 10, 2002, 02:10 PM Good thing there are people with too much time :) or we won't have cool mods and backups.
Most of the development is for $$$, so people can make $$$ of modchips. Some are for fun, like adding ram, changing gfx for improvement and hobbies.
Jaice Oct 10, 2002, 04:53 PM You can make a backup of anything you own, but the problem is that people will just buy backups cause there cheaper, just like we do. If everyone was gonna buy the orginal game, then make a backup for safety, maybe there wouldn't even be a boot code.
Someone said "I doubt Microsoft has anything to do with China Messiah, cause there in China", but many people still believe that MS closed Liksang.
Companys are stopping selling X-box chips cause there scared of MS, that was the purpose of this post.
