I decided to do a fresh install of windows. The only problem is that I want to format the C: drive. How do I format the drive the Operating system is on. I thought the Win2k installation gave me this option but I didn't see it. Instead it just installed over the old operating system so I still have alot of junk files on the drive...How do I format and freshly install since I can' use a boot disk with NTFS partitions.

Use Win 98 Bootdisk and run FDISK. Select Remove Non-dos partition. Remove it and then just keep it as it is. Boot through the Win2K CD. And it will prompt you to create a partition.

Thanks MasterMind. Your idea worked fine. The only thing is for some reason when it made the new drive it made it the K: drive and Windows doesn't let you reassign the letter that the Operating system is installed to. I guess I have to get use to the change. Thanks alot though....

Hey, would that work with a Win95 or WinME boot disk?

As long as the boot disks has FDISK it will work just fine....also make sure your Win2k CD is bootable, I have 2 Win2k cd's 1 is corrupt and 1 is not bootable so I had to use both to get thigns working....

To reassign drive letters go to http://www.aumha.org/freeware.php
And get Letter Assigner ver. 1.2 it may work on win2k but I have not try it.

Hothi, you don't need any special utilities to re-assign a drive letter in Windows 2000. Just go to Disk Management under administrative tools in the control panel then Right-Click on the drive and re-assign.

Use the Win2k Pro CD to make the necessary boot disks for Win2K, Makeboot is the command I believe. Then boot the sys using the boot disks and when prompted to, delete the existing partition and then create a new FAT or NTFS partition to install OS. I recommend NTFS for security

Alright I will try to make the boot disk, I didn't know Win2k had a boot disk though...after I do will it make the partition C:\ automatically....I made a new partition last time and it made it K:\

select the option to delete partition all logical drive
(if you have more than one partition, you will need to delete the logical first then repeat the same for other partitions until it says NO partitions defined)

format c: /s

Is it possible to do it without deleting all the partitions....that isn't a viable solution for me to have to delete all my partitions...That was my reason for partitioning so I wouldn't have to wipe everything when I wanted to reinstall my OS.....
