Is it possible to add a USB external Harddrive to an xbox, and use it for emu's, backups, mediaplayer, etc.?

Well you can, but prob not in the way you mention. Mod instructions exist for mounting an external hdd(s) by utlising one of the IDE connections in the Xbox. Was a nifty mod to...

Yeah, Ive checked out that guide and the one from xbox-scene, but neither really help me. I dont really need a dock. I have a 40gb external HD. It has its own power source and connects via USB.

The Controller ports on the XBox are actually USB ports in a custom shape and with a extra wire for Light Guns. Theoretically you could build a controller port-to-USB port adapter.

The problem is no XBox software exist that supports a USB harddrive so you would have to write your own. Secondly, the ports are usb v1.1 so the transfer speed would be too slow to effectively play games from.
