Not all hardware firewalls are expensive. I seem to remember seeing one for less than $300. Of course there is always the option of using a router with built in firewall protection such as the SMC Baricade, www.smc.com

For a little info on Hardware firewalls and routers you may like to read http://www.howstuffworks.com/home-network6.htm or do a search on google for "Hardware Firewalls" or "Linux Hardware Firewalls" Don't be put off by the word Linux you will find a lot of info from this search.

I personally find the Netscreen 5xp to be the best hardware firewall for home/small office use. http://www.netscreen.com

They run around $500.

I do security consulting for my job, and it is what I recommend to customers. And no, I am not in any way affiliated with Netscreen.

They are just the best around in my opinion. :)
