fackyah Oct 08, 2002, 11:38 AM Hi, I'm looking for a very cheap computers that have up to date hardware and software.
I want to find a computer that range around 400 - 600 bucks.
and I would like to find those at my local store like: Bestbuy, compusa or so on..........
anyways, I saw those e-machine and HP computers are around that price, but are those two kind of computers are okay...... Do you thinks I will have problem with them very soon, and which one is better...
If anyone can find me one, I would greatly appreciated, but I would like to see the cheapest...
GSM Super Star Oct 08, 2002, 12:03 PM My mate has a HP it seems to be ok and its really really quiet! :)
paumcd Oct 08, 2002, 12:15 PM HP's are decent. E-machines probably less so. Check pricewatch for best prices.
They probably have integrated video and sound on the motherboard which is adeqaute for most users.
Hardware is all dirt cheap and getting cheaper. You might even check Walmart or some computer chains, they have OS-free computers cheap. The OS is the single most expensive component.

MarcMail1IsBack Oct 08, 2002, 01:56 PM Hp/ Comcrap/ Etrash..I'm sorry to say but all are bottom line Pc's! Oh and sony is not much better! Any other one's should be ok
fackyah Oct 08, 2002, 03:05 PM I know those are bottom lines computers but I don't care, becuz if I change some of the hardware in it, like upgrading the memory from 128 to 1.0 GB ddr memory, that would make it a lot better when i'm editing things, so, it's doesn't matter with the retail price, it just matter to what you will add to your computer in the future, becuz hardware and software always updated..............
but what about e-machines, is it very quiet when running... or is the fan blow very loud???
MarcMail1IsBack Oct 08, 2002, 03:45 PM Ok i understand your meaning..just becareful..some of the pc's we are talking about here can't be upgrade much! Possable mem./HD/cards...Also keep in mind that all use onborad cards for sound and video!
GoodLuck!
Best building it yourself!
Van Nugent Oct 08, 2002, 05:01 PM What is your preference, m8? XP or P4?
gattman Oct 08, 2002, 06:57 PM They almost always have video built into motherboard which is adequate for average user, but not for gaming.
They usually have lower end memory; sdr instead of ddr, and if ddr...only pc2100 (the lower end of ddr).
Usually the 2 channel (pos) sound is built into the motherboard.
In other words... the motherboard is cheap crap, which is the basis for all else on the system.

why do you want to go there... it will be much cheaper on the net and with better components probably
Jaice Oct 08, 2002, 07:25 PM It depends on what speed you want, for 6004, you won't get a fast PC, Its better to build you own, then you can overclock. E-machines are ok, Compaqs and Hp are the same try to stay away from Gateway, If possible, get a Dell, as there the best.
MarcMail1IsBack Oct 08, 2002, 08:10 PM If you want a good PC..go for Dell to save time or build it your self! Even going to a small pc store and buying all parts and putting it together yourself is cool too!
lance790 Oct 08, 2002, 08:12 PM build it your self and save $
landlocked surfer Oct 08, 2002, 10:20 PM beware of e machine, even though it says agp integrated, it doesn't have an agp slot for ad-on graphics...
Neomatic Oct 08, 2002, 10:28 PM ive got a hp and its rubbish. It came with windows me which sux balls and the m/b is not compatible with 256 sd ram sticks. they usually always give u a celeron which sux and mke it so the only way to upgrade is to buy special hp parts which are usually 3 times the price. so in my opinion build ur own. its much more fun and much more cheaper in the long run

EasternDigital Oct 09, 2002, 03:03 AM The best computer you can get is one you build yourself, far more cheaper than a HP/Compaq/E-Machine/etc
If you're worrying about being able to upgrade, I wouldn't by a name brand PC, they limit what you can upgrade so you'll buy a newer one from them whenever yours goes out of date:) I know you can't upgrade a HP very much, you can double the ram, and usually not upgrade the process but a 100mhz or more faster. E-machines, blah, can you even upgrade these things? They are the most horrible things on the planet. If I was you, build your own or have someone build you one for you, you can check pricewatch.com for prices on stuff. You might can find some cheap stuff on eBay as well, so you might want to check that out. Hope this helps. :D
fackyah Oct 10, 2002, 07:38 PM I guess i will get an e-machine then, becuz I don't really care about the graphics, becuz I don't play games or watch dvd movies a lot on my computers. one things is that the monitor is too small, and I have a ps2, the other things is I don't have a lot of dvd movies...
but thanks for all the comments.............
king bush Oct 10, 2002, 08:20 PM If you can build one do it will save you cash and you will get a better one
fackyah Oct 11, 2002, 05:26 PM well, I'm have no clue in building one by my own....
