hi,
my cousin is having a problem with her computer and was wondering if someone could help me out. she has a 10.2 quantum fireball hd that was partitioned into 4 sections and was working fine. I don't know if she downloaded some kind of virus but it's only reading 500megs of the 10.2gigs now . can someone suggest what it might be and how to fix it.
thanks

You could try putting the disk in someone elses machine (with an up-to-date virus scanner) and see what they can make of the disk.

just found out she doesn't have an internet conection so I don't think she has a virus.but she has a fat16 driver installed, not fat32. I think that is the problem

i seem to remember having a similar prob. a very long time ago, although i didn't have anything too valuable so i just formatted everything, but i think you should see if you can salvage something by putting it in someone elses PC.

This is due to the age of the machine, the BIOS will only recognise a max of 512 megs. There is a way around this, which I have successfully used several times. You will need to download a program called EZBios, you then install it on the primary partition of your HD, this then over rides your Mobo BIOS, and allows the installation of a large HD.
You need to go to the Hard Drive manufacturers web site, and look under Utilities for this.

That's it! Seagate have this thing called Ontrack which allows large hard drives to be read on old mobos, i reckon there should be a similar program for Quantum drives

it took, reformating the drive twice, installing some new drivers but I finally got it working. thanks for the replies:tup:
