Which software are you using to burn ?

Daft question, but have you checked all settings / preferences etc ?

What are you trying to burn and are you burning from a CD-ROM or the hard drive? Just because you have a faster burner doesn't mean your system will supply data to it faster for burning (although it shouldn't be slower). Make sure DMA is enabled. I assume you have it on the same IDE controller as the 12x was, and all other settings and devices are the same.

Give more info on your CD-ROM (if relavent), burnware, and content be burned (audio, data, etc.).

I assume you mean you are burning MP3 to CD Audio tracks (not wave files). Try converting the MP3s to wave first, and see how fast they burn. Decoding the MP3s on the fly does take additional processing power.

I agree with Toffyman, I purchased a Liteon 12x and when I first installed it, it was slower than my old 8x, I however upgraded to later versions of the burning software and the problem was solved. Try even upgrading the firmware of the writer if it isn't up to the latest version, that may help.
