I have a 233mhz laptop with dvd-rom. Win98SE. I tried power dvd and the sound is chopppy and the display also.

I heard there are other players that make it so you don't need a 400mhz... Players that play the dvd more efficiently.
Also - is there a way to reduce the quality of display so that it would be smoother? In powerdvd there is no such option unfortunatly.

I tried resizing the windows from big to very small. 1 x 1 inch... Still was very very choppy - didn't help at all...

I'd appreciate suggestions
Thanks

Keep the zoom at 100%. It uses processor time to resize it.

Personally I don't think you will ever get very good performance with that low a spec.

If it was a desktop I would suggest a hardware decoder card. Don't know if anyone ever made a pcmcia version.

There's no way you can play a DVD smoothly with those specs.
And I don't believe there's a player that does what you ask.

Your last hope is to use a cardbus hardware decoder.

Yup, as Van Nugent said, the only way to play DVD's smoothly is with a hardware based decoder. A software DVD decoder is never going to work smoothly with those system specs.

Something like this is what you need:
