OK I did my homework and I read up on various ways to get a DVD to DVDR and opted for this method :-

SmartRipper - ripped the main film and 6 channel sound to hard disk.

DVDit - imported the video and sound, set the video for first play and used the playback to test.

What I find is the playback looks fine but the audio is out of sync and becomes more out of sync as the film plays on.

Does anyone know what causes this or can advise alternate easier methods of DVD-DVDR?

Thanks in advance

What film was it, sometimes it happens. It is better to not re-author the DVD as that is where it ofetn goes out.

The best method is to rip the DVD with smartripper, all files.
Now you have a choice, but lets say that the movie part without VTS_XX_0 is under 5.1GB

Use IFOedit to create new IFO`s for just the movie vobs and strip all of the audio out except the 6 channel dolby dig. Re-set the VTS sectors and Bob`s your uncle. You now have a film with dolby digital, no loss of quality and all the original chapters (region free also).

If there were not many audio languages you may need to start smaller than 5.1 GB.

If the movie is 7GB just ReMpeg the vobs to a m2v file of about 3.8GB and then use IFOedit to remux them. This will still give you DD5.1 and original chapters but with a slight loss of quality. I find the quality un-noticable above about 72%.

Be careful with multi angles the new IFOedit 0.85 can handle these but you must tell it they are there. When you ReMpeg be sure to select match source and you will have no audio problems at all.

Thanks for the info, theres a lot to take in and try there but I'll have a go.

I actually tried spruceup last night for the first time and finally managed to burn a backup of the film (The World is not Enough), the quality is good and the 5.1 sound is still there but because spruceup cant cope with 16:9 I get a letterboxed widescreen instead of the full screen anamorphic. Im guessing your method of not re-authoring would retain the original aspect ratio.

Well thanks again... any other tips and hints would be most gratiously accepted.
