Just installed all me new hardware in me ATX case. I got an AMD 2100 Xp Processor and An ASUS Motherboard. I have selected the speed in bios and set it as 2163 as there wasnt one called 2100. Then i save and restart and when i do me monitor does not come on. If i turn it off and then restart it loads up and asks me again for the Cpu speed again. If i leave it as the default and restart it works. But the defailt is 1300 or somet like that. Is that ok to choose that when i have an 2100.

When the pc turns off again it asks for the me Cpu speed again, it just wont keep it in memory.

Anybody know what i am doing wrong lol

Cheers

The number in an Athlon processor description is not the clock speed. It's a marketing thing AMD came up with to help them compete with INTEL. An Athlon 2100+ has about the same performance as a Pentium4 2100MHz (hence the name). It's clock only runs at 1730MHz. You need to set the clock at that.

As Richskie said, 2163 is too fast for an XP2100, thats some serious overclocking.

You SHOULD be able to get the speed to 1730 (or close to that) in BIOS.

A lot of ASUS mainboards, when they detect something like this will default back to SAFE settings.

Your FSB Speed is set to 200MHz when it SHOULD be 266MHz

Also you may find your Memory set to 100MHz when it SHOULD be 133MHZ (depending on the type of RAM you have, Im asssuming PC133 SDRAM)

Look for settings in your BIOS, move the memory speed up to 133 and you should then be able to select your CPU Speed of 1730.

I got 256 mb DDRAM. So is that still 133mhz.

Also other problem is that i cant get the floppy drive to work for some reason. I have bought a new floppy, i have changaed the wires. All the wires are correctley inserted

Whats wrong

Cheers.

Ps, i have changed the CPU to 1730 in the bios and it works great

Cheers again

When you put a diskette in does the light for the floppy drive come on? and does it spin?

No green light comes on or owt. It dont even check if there is a floppy drive there like before it loads ur operating system. It does nothing lol

If i change the cable and then restart the green light stays on all the time which obviously means that the cable is in wrong way.

Does it work in windows? Not all motherboards check for the floppy drive on boot up. Sometimes there is an option in the bios to change this.
When you put a disk in the light should not come on nor should the disk spin until you try to access the drive.

You enabled it in the bios presumably? They don't autodetect.
