The USB plextors will. Whether it will work with Wincdg is another thing.

Alternatvely you could use mp3/G karaoke files and install a player onto your machine

I've already wasted money on an external USB plextor - not one piece of CD+G software will recognise it as a drive that is CD+G compatible.
any other ideas ? I do not want to put MP3+G files on the laptop, i simply need an external CD drive that will work.

For whatever reason you do not want to pile mp3+G tracks on the laptop
( supplied by employer for work etc ). Why don't you just fill cds with mp3+G tracks and use the CD drive to read them into Winamp with the CDG plugin.

I also have a USB plextor write that I paid for just so I can make backup from my laptop. I also have the am problem no cdg software recognise it as a drive that is CD+G compatible.
Not ever CDR-WIN
Why is this?

Daemon Toolz 3.0.9 or higher will allow you to create karaoke compilations with a non compatible burner.
Discjuggler will allow you to create compilations with burners not supported by CDRWin.

You could try CAVS play CDG as it plays Karaoke files, but again you need a compatable drive like yamaha.
