Before the message that this is in the wrong forum...

Heres the situation. I just got a DVD burner - the new Sony DRU DVD+/- burner. I realize now that I'm running a Fat32 system, which of course hasn't been a problem.

Well, I need to extract isos that are >4 gigs with winrar.

I have 2 hard drives - 80 gig main with 13 gig secondary drive.

Both are running Windows 98.

Is there a way to break the extraction into smaller chunks or to convert my 13 gig HD into a NTFS? Or can someone help me create a partition on the 80gig drive?

Will this even work with windows 98 or must I upgrade?

I'd appreciate if anyone who has had this problem and solved it could either help me, or point me to a site dealing with this.

TIA :)

You can convert the 13 to NTFS, that';s probably the easiest thing to do.

You can use your existing 80, if you use Prassi and get the Px Engine, it will break up images you MAKE, to multiple <2 gig files so with FAT32 it's fine.

Well, actually crap - Win98 won't see an NTFS partition I don't think.

lol, just upgrade the OS :P

Yeah. Guess you have to use XP or the psxengine thingy you could search for it cause alot of users already use it.

discdocx..

we always end up meeting in the same place...Yeeeesh

when i had the same issue with NTFS, i did hear that windows 98 didn't support the file system ..and wont recognize it

and i think that to make partitions like that (one being fat32, and then one being NTFS), you'd have to format anyways ..well at least that was the advice that i had received earlier for this

anyways, you should upgrade the OS to win xp and then have everything as NTFS ...simply because to do all of this, you wouldnt have to format

btw, ive never even seen that sony drive to buy ...drop me an email and lemme know what you think about it ...

good luck !

Thanks guys - I think I'll convert the 13 gig HD to Win XP/NFTS and leave the 80 gig as is since it works great anyways. That way I can just use the 13 gig drive to extract and burn images.

I wish I'd read up more on this before ;)

btw for anyone interested, this burner is sweet - super fast for CD and handles both + and - format for DVD

Not in Canada yet tho, so I had to make a run to Circuit City - $349 US, which is still cheaper than the Pioneer A04 in Canada at $500 :)
