miraj Oct 21, 2002, 10:56 PM Well I bought a Lite-On 48125W and it is only being detected by Nero as a 16X burner. I have DMA enabled, I even did that registry DWORD stuff to make sure it was enabled correctly. I have firmware VS08.... cant figure this one out. Any suggestions?
miraj Oct 21, 2002, 10:58 PM Oh I should add I updated the VIA chipset 4in1 driver. Also I am running Windows XP.
celtic_druid Oct 22, 2002, 01:49 AM Check what the media is rated at with the Lite-On smart burn uitil. If the media is only rated at 16x Nero will only let you burn at a max of 16x.
miraj Oct 22, 2002, 11:34 AM THe media is not the problem. I upgraded from a Lite-On 24x, and that was writing just fine at 24x with the same media. I need some more help than this...
yinyan Oct 22, 2002, 12:25 PM have u got the latest version
celtic_druid Oct 22, 2002, 01:23 PM I don't see the fact that the 24x was writing them at 24x definatly means that the 48x can't rate them at 16x. Did you actually try the smartburn util??
hobogobo Oct 22, 2002, 01:39 PM uninstall and reinstall nero
miraj Oct 22, 2002, 05:15 PM I've uninstalled and reinstalled Nero 3 times, I have the latest version.... I guess I'm looking for slightly more techincal answers here, I think I've done all the basic stuff...
miraj Oct 22, 2002, 06:29 PM Updated my BIOS to the latest version, updated Nero .cfg file, updated Nero ASPI file, I cannot get this thing to write any faster than 16x... Bad drive?
celtic_druid Oct 22, 2002, 06:36 PM Could you just humour me and test the media with the smart-burn media check simulator??
miraj Oct 22, 2002, 10:53 PM is that a part of nero? how do i do that? =)
celtic_druid Oct 23, 2002, 05:16 AM No, it ain't part of Nero, as I said it is a lite-on utillity. You can download it from their website.
If you have a 16X rated CDR in the drive then the info on the chose recorder menu will show 16X as the Max speed. Pretty sure that it will then stay on 16X untill you stick some faster rated media in.
CHR15 Oct 23, 2002, 05:27 AM Lazza threw a link to Smartburn up a while ago:

miraj Oct 23, 2002, 04:30 PM regardless of the media i insert. it is limiting me to 16x...i think i have a bad drive!
celtic_druid Oct 23, 2002, 04:40 PM So you have tried 48X media then??
EARLTHEPEARL Oct 25, 2002, 02:54 PM Mine is working fine. But I did need to go to my BIOS and set all the masters and slaves to auto and check digtal audio in the cd device manager. I'm sure you have done that. But did you go to cdspeed and do a check with their download/or nero's built in checker under programs/nero toolkit. Worth a try. Via chips have been a little strange on hardware compatability at times. I thought I had a bad cdrom until I checked my bios.:hdspin: :round:
steve54 Oct 25, 2002, 07:12 PM have you changed your pio mode in your bios to 4,as some m\b need you todo this as setting it to auto isn't sufficient enough to make it work.most of the high speed drives need his to make them work correctly.another thing, you havnt flashed the firmware have you with dodgy software from elswhere other than liteons site.
