try defraging the drive that the film is on several times or until it wont defrag anymore.
I doubt it's the media as I have come across this allot, to sort this out I make a title set and burn with PrimoDVD 2.0 as a data disk, seems to sort the problem out.

ok this may or may not help you out!
on a fully defraged 80gb hdd
FWS X2 media recorded 4.35gb title set* @ X 2 with PrimoDVD 2.0
burn 1;
I left the pc alone whilst the burn took place, playback was flawless in both my Pacific 1000 and Pioneer 717
burn 2;
same as above BUT I started multitasking (surfing/email/printing/listened to some mp3's nothing too excessive) .... the result playback on my Pacific 1000 stopped playback at the last chapter, froze up my player and then reset it, Playback on the Pioneer 717 slightly skippy (noticeable) but the disc played through to the end.
I left Primo open and just inserted a new dvdr to burn to
burn 3;
back to same process as burn 1, result was as burn 1 a flawless copy.
I think that some discs are just picky as to how well the data is burned to them whilst multi tasking, so if in doubt just leave your pc alone whilst it's burning!
*title set was created with Spruce with a chapter point every 10 mins
