are they encoded to dvd compliance? or are they ones you dloaded?

I believe DVDit PE will reencode the files from any mpg1/2 source for you so they will playback in a dvd player (dont' hold me to that though!)

also nero should tell you if the files are compatible or not? I thought when you grag n drop an mpg file into it when making a vcd it tells you if the file is compatible or not and if not it reencodes for you?

if they are vcd files then just cut them and re-burn as a vcd.

use spruceup to author the vcds into vob files so they will be recognised by a dvd player. there are many tutorials about this. you can make a menu and chapter popints for each film in spruceup and it will put your film vob files in a VIDEO_TS folder for you and give you an AUDIO_TS folder as some dvd players are fussy if the audio_ts folder isnt there
