I have windows 98SE and I'm having some problems getting into standby.

When I set a screensaver such as the good old "flying windows" and then maybe 10 minutes after I set system standby be executed, it never happens. I let the computer sit around for an hour and it never goes into standby.

When I don't have a screensaver set and i set the standby to start in 10 minutes, it does exactly after 10 minutes. So why isn't it going on standby when i have a screensaver?

I tried having a screensaver and after that having "turn off monitor" and after that "turn off hard drives" and all that happens is the "monitor option" But the hard disks never turn off. I even set the hard disk to turn off without having a screen saver but that doesn't work either...

The only thing that worked so far is standby without screen saver.

Also - my bios has some options:

ACPI aware O/S - NO (what is acpi? should i have it on YES?)
Power management under AC - OFF
POWER saving level - OFF

I don't think i need to have powermanagement setting from bios. But I've tried turning them on... didn't help a bit.

Thanks everyone

hi m8 i have enclose a site for a free program to make windows shut down
or go into standby mode
have u alter the setting in the power management to allways on and go to
advance and click on when i press the power button pc shuts down
all so i alter the hard drive to never shutdown and all so the monitor
the pc should go into screensaver mode now
this site for the problem is free of charge and u do not have to pay for it
very good program to use
