bargainking Oct 25, 2002, 03:46 PM Just loaded XP Home Edition on my old PC, but it will not recognise any PCI items (which one is my modem) or my spare external modem, so cant even get on line to activate XP and pick up the upgrades.
Any help on how to get my XP to recognise a modem would be greatly appreciated.
Don't know the make of the PCI one, but external is Diamond SupraExpress 336v+
Any ideas anyone ?????????
Jono2003 Oct 25, 2002, 04:59 PM go to device manager & see if they are detected you may just need to install the drivers for them. if you don't know where that is go to control panel, performance, system, hardware, device manager
Ango Oct 25, 2002, 05:00 PM I had that same problem still do.
Just go into Add phone modem (something like that) in control panel and you will have to find the driver for your modem and add it that way.
Nuttapper Oct 25, 2002, 05:39 PM The modem may not be compatable with Xp, had the same prob last week on an XP software upgrade, had to swap the modem 10 quid from the local shop.. Ango, if the PC doesn't see the modem you cannot instal the drivers M8..
bargainking Oct 25, 2002, 07:11 PM Thanks for all the replies guys; I feared that I may have to get a new modem, can anyone recomend the cheapest xp compatible modem to buy thats easy to get hold of.
I had no idea when upgrading to XP that many devices would not be compatible with it, so a lesson for all using old devices.
Weezer Oct 26, 2002, 04:07 AM Find out the make of the modem, then download xp drivers from the site?
green_blade Oct 26, 2002, 05:47 AM Providing your PC can physically see the modem (or either of them), you should be able to set it up as a standard modem which will at least enable you to get on-line.
However, as you obviously have internet access elsewhere, as Weezer says, just go to the manufacturer's site or one of the driverguide type sites and download the drivers.
If the problem is seeing the modem, you may need to get the drivers for your motherboard. Check the device manager as above, chances are there are exclamation marks by PCI Bridge and that kind of thing. Once these have been sorted, you may find that everything else falls into place.
GG27 Oct 26, 2002, 06:01 AM I had the same probs m8 , just bought a cheap (£14) Intel v92 internal fax modem that soughted it
bargainking Oct 27, 2002, 12:32 PM Thanks for all the advice guys/gals:
Got a new PCI Modem for £14.99 and that sorted it.
Now just got the USB to sort out as XP isn't happy with the hub etc.
