I have a lite on 24x10x40 and b4 i formatted my comp it worked fine but now after i formatted it it's messed up. It has a lite, when it's red it burning, but orange it's stopping, but the burn proof protects it from stopping. And this way it takes me about 25 min to burn but normally it takes 5 min. And it doesn't work wit dj n e more either.
Now my question is it messed up? or is it not connected right?

After you formated did you re-install the drivers??? ASPI, 4in1's and turn on DMA.

I agree with notahacker, your problem is you dont have DMA turned on. Go to settings/system/device manager/cdroms and select the liteon, then place a tick in the dma box (I'd turn off auto insert, but that's up you you).
You are also correct, when the light is orange the burnproof is enabled and the writing speed drops to whatever it needs to continue burning.

I have a similar prob with this model. I have DMA enabled on it. I replaced a Creative 121032 with the Lite On 241040 and it is slower. I actually find it writes faster at 12 or 16 x than it does at 20 or 24x. Why is this? I have tried changing read/write speeds, set both to max, which probly was the longest it took.
My DVD drive is a Hitachi GD8000 which AFAIK reads at 48x.
Installed new firmware on the Lite On and problem seemed to improve a little but now I'm back to ridiculous times, ie 23 mins for a 1 disc vcd at 24x, yet at 16x I get around 11 mins.
What can I change do to sort this out. With my old writer I could write the same disc at 12x in less than 5 mins, so why so long with new one?
Thanx
