Hey ya'll,

I've got a pioneer DVR-103 which came with my Vaiio. Use to work great burning CD and DVD discs. But I haven't burnt a DVD in a long time, and just the other day I tried to but it wouldn't work. I DO NOT have the original installation from Sony, I installed XP pro from a standalone (not sure if that makes a difference). I have tried using DVDit, Nero and Discjuggler, none work.

Anyways, another thing is when I insert a blank DVD, I don't get anything from XP. Usually when I insert any CD I get the autostart window from XP, but that doesn't happen with the DVD-rs. I have tried different brands too, but it didn't change anything.

So I would like to know if maybe I do not have the right drivers for my DVDr drive, or something is missing that is on the Sony installation cds. Any help would be greatly appreciated, here is my driver info for my DVDr:

Driver Provider: Microsoft

Driver Date: 01/07/2001

Driver Version: 5.1.2535.0

Digital Signer: Microsoft Windows XP Publisher

I don't know much when it comes to these things, so If you need any more info just let me know.

Thanks ya'll

In explorer it just says CD drive. Although the icon for the drive says DVD-r.

Ok, I updated the firmware but still nothing. There was a known issue with the faster burning media and the DVR-103 in vaiio computers. But it didn't fix anything for me.

I know windows is recognizing the drive as a DVD-r drive. But for some reason it cannot recognize the DVD-r media (i've tried 2 different kinds so far). Is it worth looking for a third brand and trying it? Or does someone else have a different idea I could try?

Thanks.

i just had a similar problem with my 104, it wouldnt recognize a dvd-r blank or burnt. i took it apart (2 screws on each side), clean the laser with a q-tip and now works like new.

Hmmm, if thats the case, I'll take it in to futureshop. I bought a 3 year warranty for $300, so I might as well make good use of it.

I'll post back the results.

Thanks Vult.
