Im trying to make some backups of some of my games. I have the newest version of cdrwin and a XP system. Some games copy while some dont. Tomb Rader3 worked just great, while 2 has dumped the extraction 3 times. Ive rebooted my system and have also done a defrag. How come some work and some wont. Thaes games are in fine to mint condition, but with my kids playing them soon not for long.
what program should I use as another backup maker??
Please post the links. Thanks Eclipse

CloneCD > www.elby.de
Nero > www.ahead.de
CloneCD would be the first choice for 1:1 copies. :)

For PSX backups, I Have longed used CDRWin. It is very user friendly and has a simple interface. Just go to www.goldenhawk.com to download it.
You say "while 2 has dumped the extraction 3 times" which says to us you are not even getting the game put on the hard drive first. Which of course I hope you are going from disk to hard drive then to blank disk...If not, try that. Also try lowering your read speed. Another factor could be scratched media..

Thing is that it extracts sometimes(Tomb Raider 2) with CDRWIN, but when I burn it it says completed sucessfully. Then when I play my backup I get it loaded and the intro starts up just fine but when i try to start the actual game its like nothing is there.
Could it be the cdr media that Im using?? Im using silver bottom discs and have tried fuji with a greenish silver. As I said above, when it dumps the extraction to HD it gets about 99% done then I get an error box saying something like this:
ERROR : Unable to read DATA Sectors 160974 to 161000 on device 1:0:0
Illegal comand request(04h 00h 02h 05h 64h 00h)
I have no idea what this is all about. any ideas??

Sounds like bad media with that error command you got. Just interpreting it, to me it sounds like the last few blocks, CDRWin cant seem to write...Be sure you are using media without scratches and all that other stuff. Try numerous kinds and even lowering your write speed.

If it is giving data errors when reading then the source cd is damaged and not worth making a backup from.
The best blanks to use for burning PSX are dark blue ones.

A+ advice. Thanks I'll get some dark blue ones. Funny thing is that the discs were flawless looking. Not rented ones that are all scratched up. Ive burned a few of those and thew were ok.
Any brand ideas for the dark blue ones.
And the dark blue, is that for the Playstation reading the disc??
I have burned thousands of discs but mostly audio wav files. Playstation rips / burns are new to me. Again thanks.

I've never really noticed a difference in the media - though so will disagree. I have used TDK, Memorex, Kodak, Sony, and even K-Hypermedia. I have since talked myself into staying away from the cheap stuff, but I did use it and never really notice a difference. I'm strictly Memorex now, mainly because its the best value around here.

eclipse-
Try Clone or Nero. They will often copy fine when CDRWin will not. Verbatim DataLifes are my favorite media, though cheap media will often work fine. CD > HDD > CD is best as someone else mentioned. Lower the read/write speed if necessary.

justmenow55-
the default settings are perfect for ripping and burning PSX m8. again though, if you have a somewhat scratched source CD, stay away from CDRWin and use one of the other apps mentioned.
and if it's a 1:1 copy u want (or close to it), use CloneCD.
