im having trouble installing windows 95 or 98 on an old aptiva im trying reformat for someone. there are various problems from not able to decoce certain cab files during installation of win 95/98 to a lot of dll errors after it is done installing windows. i tried updating the bios, replacing the hard drive already, but it still has those errors. could it be bad ram? or is this computer just dead now? i can post more details if anyone can even suggest ideas. yes, i know how to reformat a computer because i have done it plenty of times.. it has to be something in the hardware... something that i still dont really know much about.

okay i get illegal operation errors in explorer... about gdi.exe.. sometimes about kernell sumthing.dll.. and some others but this always happens right when windows 95 boots up... i have no idea whats going wrong because i just put a new hard drive in there... so i know the hard drive isnt faulty and i installed/ reinstalled/uninstalled windows 95 too many times that i almost memorized the cd-key... hah... i need some help. could it be bad ram? oh yeah... i did update the bios... which is still 5 years old.. or is the cpu damaged? any more sugestions? its not that i really need that computer is just that i am helping my aunt fix it and i cant seem to find out whats wrong with it

okay... i have another problem with this computer... it takes forever for the system memory test to load. it takes a long time for it to check the memory and then after that it freezes so it gets stuck at that screen. and occasionally it will restart and do the same thing over again. i cannot hit F1 to go to the setup and i cant press escape to skip the test. is this computer just useless now?
